The one room hotel - Antwerp
“Based on a design attitude of honesty and reversibility, all existing historical construction parts are painted white. Recently added elements like entrance door, stairs and terrace are executed in wood and are therefore clearly recognizable. The difference in color and materiality emphasizes the synergy between old and new and creates a calm, warm and timeless atmosphere.”
The owner of this small house, dating back from the 17th century, decided to turn it into a place to stay on future visits to Antwerp but also into a tiny, luxury hotel with just one double bedroom - the smallest hotel from Antwerp (near the Grote Markt square) the One Room Hotel!
In consultation with the owner Belgian architect DMVA has transformed this very special historical house without touching the historical elements and I just love the open staircases wind through the house like an ‘architectural promenade’ ending up in the white patio where an infinity staircase looks over the city. And how about the amazing wooden floors with sections of glass to create diagonal views through the house… Cant wait to see this amazing place after the finishing touch of an interior stylist!
