sense of beauty of Japan: Time & Style Amsterdam

We have always been inspired by Scandinavian brands, but also their culture. And over the years, a lot of Scandinavian brands share their love for the the Japanese culture, it’s is such a beautiful mix.

We recently discovered Time & Style, a Japanese interior store who design and manufacture their own products. Their European flagship store opened in 2017 in Amsterdam. Time to share a bit more about this beautiful store.

“We have made it our mission to spread the sense of beauty of Japan. Our company was established in 1990. In 1997, we opened our first interior store in Tokyo and began designing and manufacturing our own products in Japan. Since then, we have opened four stores in Tokyo and established our own factory in Hokkaido. We create contemporary interior spaces and offer furniture, lighting and tableware. Here, the past and future meet through the combination of traditional techniques and modern design. Our products are meant to be used in everyday life, becoming a part of your personal living space.”

In 2017 they opened their European flagship store in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The building it is located in was built as a local police station in 1888 and was certified as a national monument in 2001. The Amsterdam staff provides the same high level service as in Japan and can explain the background of each product. In addition, the customers can experience genuine Japanese culture through Japanese contemporary art, bonsai, traditional gift wrapping and live music events.

“Our intention when opening this store was not merely to sell our products, but to create a place of the exchange of cultures and lifestyles. As the limits of economic growth and of our natural resources became increasingly apparent, Japanese people are rediscovering their own culture and tradition. Virtues like moderation, simplicity, politeness and sensitivity are becoming relevant once again. We want to share this part of culture with the European people so that it enriches their lives. It is our contribution to the modern world. Time & Style Amsterdam is an intersection of Eastern and Western cultures and lifestyles.”
