Last week Vivian shared her story about her visit  to the press launch of the Iittala Raami collection at the Design week in Stockholm. She loved the fact that this new timeless dining collection can be in your home for life. A beautiful thought that fits perfectly in this time where we all want to live more consciously and sustainably.

Besides this amazing exhibition by Jasper Morrison at the Wetterling Gallery, Vivian visited another highlight of the Stockholm Design week 2019: The Fenix Palace, an exhibition set in a former entertainment palace in central Stockholm were Ariake and My Residence welcomed their visitors.

By mixing contemporary Japanese handcraft, handpicked artisans and producers and a Swedish interior dating back to 1912, The Fenix Palace was a celebration of good collaborations in an unusual setting.  The building where the exhibition was held is the work of architect Hjalmar Westerlund and originally housed a number of well-known restaurants, a dance hall, a theatre and a bowling alley. Since 1940 it has been owned by the City church, and its premises are rarely open to the public.

The Fenix Palace is the second collaboration between the bookazine My Residence and the Japanese producer Ariake, following up last year success with the exhibition A quiet reflection, where visitors were invited to a private residence in central Stockholm. Ariake was founded in 2016 by Legnatec and Hirata Chair, two factories from the furniture town of Morodomi in Saga prefecture, Japan and their collection includes new pieces by Norm Architects, Keiji Ashizawa, Staffan Holm and Anderssen & Voll.

“We wanted to showcase good quality handcraft, small producers and local artisans and makers in an interesting environment; the space play a vital role in how you approach and experience the furniture and art pieces,” said Hanna Nova Beatrice, editor-in-chief of My Residence and curator of the exhibition.

The exhibition was a collaboration between Ariake, My Residence, Turn handles, Origin, Wästberg, Nedre Foss, Faina collection and a handpicked selection of designers and producers all curated by Hanna Nova Beatrice and styled by Annaleena Leino. -Elvera-
